Future Ready NYC: Technology Pathway — Cybersecurity Analyst

What is Future Ready NYC?

Future Ready NYC is a NYC Public Schools initiative that connects high school learning to real, in-demand careers. Students earn college credit, build industry skills, and complete work-based learning, graduating ready for college and well-paid, future-proof jobs.

Future Ready =

  • Rigorous academics + hands-on projects
  • Career exploration and paid/internship experiences
  • Industry-recognized credentials
  • Early college momentum (dual enrollment/articulated credit)

Who’s participating?

Mott Hall High School is part of the Technology pathway and is 1 of 19 NYC high schools offering the Cybersecurity Analyst program. We’re proud to bring this high-growth field to our students and community.

What students learn

  • Foundations: hardware, operating systems, networking, scripting basics
  • Security Core: threat types, vulnerabilities, risk management, incident response
  • Defensive Tools: endpoint protection, SIEM/log analysis, identity/access, cloud basics
  • Professional Skills: documentation, teamwork, ethics, and communication

Certifications & experiences (examples)

  • Prep for industry certs such as CompTIA (ITF+/A+/Network+/Security+, as appropriate)
  • Work-based learning: site visits, career panels, problem-solving with industry partners
  • Capstone: a real security scenario with documentation and presentation

Outcomes: Graduates leave with practical skills, a portfolio/capstone, and a clear plan for college majors (Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems) or entry-level tech roles with further training.

Why Choose Mott Hall for Cybersecurity?

Small school, big support. Students are known by name and get personalized guidance.

  • Strong ENL program: Language development is integrated with content; multilingual learners get targeted supports and can thrive in tech courses.
  • More focus: Smaller class sizes and a tight-knit community mean more feedback, more lab time, and more time with teachers.
  • College & Career Office: Dedicated staff help with dual-enrollment, internships, résumé building, FAFSA/TAP, scholarship searches, and application timelines.
  • Hands-on tech culture: Access to modern devices, labs, and real tools used in the field.
  • Connected to opportunity: Partnerships and events that bring professionals into our classrooms (and students into theirs).
