College & Career Readiness at MHHS

At Mott Hall, College and Career Planning is a core pillar of our 5Cs framework. We are committed to equity, access, and early exposure, ensuring every student is prepared for life after high school—whether that means college, trade school, or a career.

Our Approach

  • Career Exploration Class (Grade 9): All 9th grade students participate in a dedicated Career Exploration class, where they learn about various industries, career paths, and the skills needed for success. This course lays the foundation for informed decision-making throughout high school.
  • Individualized Support: Students receive 1:1 advising, FAFSA and TAP workshops, and family engagement sessions.
  • Integrated Curriculum:
    • Crew class, held five days a week, provides consistent support in college and career readiness, including lessons on financial literacy, goal setting, and post-secondary planning.
    • The OneGoal program, beginning in 11th grade and continuing through 12th grade and the first year after high school, offers structured guidance to help students navigate their post-secondary journey.
  • Advanced Academics: AP courses include AP English Literature, AP English Language, AP Pre-Calculus, AP Biology, AP Spanish Language and Culture, and AP Psychology.

Experiential Learning

  • Annual college visits to CUNY, SUNY, and private universities across New York and beyond.

(Schools such as Coppin State University, Howard University, Salem State University, Curry College, Merrimack College, Temple University, Drexel University, Villanova University)

  • Participation in the CUNY Explorers Program. (York College, Bronx Community College)
  • Career Discovery Week and industry exposure events. In April 2025, we visited Amazon and our students engaged in activities connected to Cybersecurity: NYC students get a chance to explore careers at top companies
  • On-campus college and career fairs with growing participation each year.

Strategic Partnerships

  • Urban Scholars: SAT prep, college visits, and in-class support.
  • OneGoal: Two-year college and career curriculum with continued support through students’ first year after high school.
  • FutureReady: Cybersecurity program with internships, certifications, and college credits.
  • College Now: Dual-enrollment opportunities through partnerships with City College and Bronx Community College (BCC), allowing students to earn college credits while still in high school.
