About Mott Hall High School:

Given our increased enrollment, we are looking for teachers across a number of content areas who are passionate about making a difference in students' lives by fostering an inclusive and academically rigorous learning environment, and eager to join our evolving school community. Key Job Responsibilities:

  1. Curriculum Development and Instruction:
  • Design and implement engaging and inclusive lesson plans that adhere to New York State and NYC DOE standards.
  • Continuously update and adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse learning needs and styles of students.
  • Incorporate technology and innovative teaching strategies to enhance learning experiences.

 

  1. Student Assessment and Evaluation:
  • Develop and administer a variety of assessment tools to monitor student progress and understanding.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to guide their academic and personal growth.
  • Use assessment data to refine teaching strategies and learning activities.

 

  1. Classroom Management:
  • Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that fosters a sense of community among students.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies to maintain student engagement and promote a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Address behavioral issues promptly and equitably, with a focus on restorative practices.

 

  1. Professional Collaboration:
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, department heads, and administration to develop curriculum, share best practices, and address school-wide challenges.
  • Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs) to enhance teaching skills and contribute to the school's educational goals.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with educational research, pedagogical methods, and subject area knowledge.

 

  1. Communication and Engagement:
  • Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians to discuss students' progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.
  • Involve families and the community in students' learning and school events to build partnerships that support student success.
  • Be accessible to students, parents, and colleagues for conferences, meetings, and as a resource for educational or personal guidance.

 

  1. Equity and Inclusivity:
  • Implement equitable teaching practices that recognize and address the diverse cultural, social, and learning needs of students.
  • Foster an inclusive classroom environment where every student feels valued, respected, and empowered to learn.
  • Challenge biases and stereotypes, promoting critical thinking and a deeper understanding of social justice and equity issues.

 

  1. Legal and Ethical Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws and regulations, including those specific to education, student privacy, and safety.
  • Maintain professional conduct and ethics in all interactions with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Ensure the protection of student data and confidentiality in accordance with DOE policies and legal requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated passion for content and pedagogy, with a track record of creating engaging and rigorous learning experiences.
  • Must have valid NYS teaching certification and cleared through TEACH.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Evidence of prioritizing students' success and backgrounds in teaching practice, with a commitment to addressing educational inequity.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with a team, aligning with Mott Hall's five C's and contributing to a positive school culture.
  • Strong commitment to continuous improvement, showing resilience and a proactive approach to personal and professional growth.
